It was a sad day in the Gale household today. We had to say goodbye to our girl, Miloh, after 14 years. A typical Beagle, Miloh’s howling woke the entire neighborhood many mornings. She especially loved food, and stole many lunches and dinners from our table when we weren’t looking. She loved people, especially children, and had a special place in her heart for our son, who picked her out from her litter mates. (or did she pick him)? They cuddled together for years, until he went away to college, and then she moved into our bed.
I’ll miss that wagging tail that came to greet me every night when I got home from work, sometimes with one of her toy babies in her mouth, telling me she wants to play. Even until the end, she wanted to play that game.
She fought the good fight, outlasting the doctor’s prognosis in March of 2013 that she didn’t have more than a few months to live. We think she hung in there so she could say good-bye to our son, and she ended up seeing him 2 more times. We were hoping she would last until the end of May, and get to see him again, but I guess we were asking for too much.
When she stopped eating, and even her peanut butter treats weren’t enticing, we knew it was the end. So goodbye old girl. We’ll never forget all the love and laughter you brought into our home. We will miss you every day, sweet Miloh.
